WELCOME TO THE 2010-2011 SCHOOL YEAR AT YIS! Dear Parents, Welcome to the opening of Yanbu International School for the 2010-2011 School Year. Today we have received many returning students for this year, and teachers are very happy to see them. They should be sending you messages about their classes and what your children will be doing. Our Open House will be coming up on September 21st, and that will be a great time for you to meet them and visit the classrooms. We are still missing many students, and if you know any families who are returning late, please help us reach them. All students are responsible for completing the curriculum for their grade, and if they start school late they will be facing the completion of the work they have missed that their classmates are already completing. It is important that parents of students returning late contact the registrar and counselor so they can arrange contact by students’ teachers with them regarding the means or methods by which students may be doing school work even if they are not physically present in the school yet. Please encourage them to email yiscounselor@isgdh.org and/or yisregistrar@isgdh.org as soon as possible. The Middle School and High School students are experiencing a new 7-period schedule for this year, and therefore have more than 8 courses in their schedules. Some have as many as 15 different classes over a 6-day period. The daily MS/HS schedule is built upon 5-40 minute periods and 2 60 minute periods which allow maximum flexibility in meeting all of the needs of a small school, as listed below. The new MS/HS schedule follows the same 6-day cycle as the Elementary schedule and allows us more flexibility in assigning the specialist teachers to different classes. We will no longer have "A" and "B" days. The whole school, JK-12 will rotate together through Days 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6. We will still have the majority of MS/HS core subjects and HS graduation requirement courses taught in our familiar 80-minute blocks which will usually occur in the morning. Benefits of the new schedule:
Our registrar, Miss Nadia Hussain and Mrs. Apple Hernandez have supplied the brain power that fulfilled my hope to meet the students’ needs by breaking down the old 80-minute walls to provide more variety in the Middle and High Schools’ day and year. Thank you for your patience in adapting to a schedule that meets more students' needs and answers the many requests of parents, students and the government of KSA all at the same time. Should you have any questions, please email me at yisprincipal@isgdh.org. Sincerely,
Mr.T School lunches Please be informed that due to Ramadan season, YIS cafeteria services will not be serving any lunch during this time. Students are advised to bring their own packed lunches for the time being. Parents and students will be notified when the YIS cafeteria will start serving lunch once again. For the meantime, thank you for your usual understanding and cooperation. RAMADAN KAREEM!
