Nurse's corner

Dear Parents,

Fall is here, which means the cold and flu season is upon us once again! We have been closely monitoring our absenteeism and evaluating our student and staff well-being in order to identify and ultimately prevent clusters of influenza-like illness.

A number of our students are experiencing flu-like symptoms. We have observed that many of the students are attending school sick. It is very important that STUDENTS WHO ARE SICK MUST STAY AT HOME to prevent others from getting ill. We are asking parents to assess their child every morning before sending them to school and to check their temperature with the use of the thermometer to determine whether they should attend school or not. You will find as an attachment to this email a document, “When Should My Child Stay Home”. Kindly familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms that you should be looking for when assessing your child before sending them to school.

We will also be requiring students who are returning from sick leave for 3 days or more to give us a Medical Report from a physician. This will help us in knowing and tracking illnesses that our students are experiencing and will give us an idea on what illnesses we should watch out for.

We encourage you to follow the recommendations sent out in our initial letter in preparation for the H1N1 and flu seasons. As a school, we have posted reminders, placed hand sanitizers, and made information available to our students and staff. As a reminder, it remains a shared responsibility in taking preventative measures to control the spread of the virus. Please continue to practice the 3 C’s:

  1. Cover your cough and sneeze with the inside of your elbow and not your hands
  2. Cleanse your hands frequently
  3. Contain your germs by staying home when you are sick. (Fever >100 / 38, coughing, sore throat, body aches, etc.)

We appreciate your continued cooperation and communication. We are counting on everyone to help keep our school a safe and healthy place! If you have questions, please contact our School Nurse at 392-1088 ext. 106.
