Session 1 Activities
Click here for Permission Slip September 25 – November 14 This activity is designed to give boys and girls the opportunity to explore and foster creativity and self confidence by engaging in variety of art activities such as drawing and painting. Students will learn the basic skills and concepts in Art. It will give the children a chance to enhance their creative skills and explore the different possibilities offered in art. Computer Games (Grades 1-6) 20 Students Maximum Sponsor: Huda Al-Husseini Students will play educational computer games in which they will enhance their knowledge in typing and gaming. French (Grade 2-6) 20 Students maximum Sponsor: Salwa Al-Husseini This after school activity is for students who wish to learn basic and intermediate French. Board Games (Grades 3-5) 16 students maximum Sponsor: Belinda Naso BROWNIE Girl Scouts (Grades 2-3) 30 Students Maximum Sponsor: Jennifer Lasater Girl Scouting is for every girl, everywhere---where today’s girls can become tomorrow’s leaders. Girl Scouts, girls find a safe place to grow and share new experiences, learn to relate to others, develop values, and contribute to society. Girl Scouts Brownies work together in groups, earn Girl Scout Brownie Try-Its, and explore their community. Friendship, fun, and age-appropriate activities begin at the Girl Scout Brownie meeting and move out to the community and wider world. Parents Volunteers are welcome to join us for a week or two or every session. This will be offered all year, and you will only have to pay the enrollment fee 1 time per school year! This activity does have an annual enrollment fee of 45 SR that is used to register with Girls Scouts of America so that we are a recognized troop. There may be additional charges to purchase Brownie Try-It badges that we earn. JUNIOR Girl Scouts (Grades 4-6) 30 Students Maximum Sponsor: Jennifer Lasater / Marsha Phelps Girl Scouting is for every girl, everywhere---where today’s girls can become tomorrow’s leaders. Girl Scouts, girls find a safe place to grow and share new experiences, learn to relate to others, develop values, and contribute to society. Girl Scouts Juniors earn badges and discover what girl power is all about through new activities and by learning to take charge of their own plans. They gain self-confidence as they explore the world in partnership with their troop/group leaders. Parents Volunteers are welcome to join us for a week or two or every session. This will be offered all year, and you will only have to pay the enrollment fee 1 time per school year! This activity does have an annual enrollment fee of 45 SR that is used to register with Girls Scouts of America so that we are a recognized troop. There may be additional charges to purchase badges that we earn.
Friendship Bracelets (Grades 4-6) 16 students maximum Sponsor: Belinda Naso Participants will learn to follow a chosen pattern in weaving one or more “friendship” bracelet. All materials will be provided. Chess Club (Grades 1-12) Sponsor: Preetha Nataraj Chess play develops the attitudes and insights that make up emotional intelligence. Students of this club will learn how to keep calm under pressure. They will understand that they can win if they work at it. They will build confidence about their ability to tackle obstacles and succeed. The participants of this activity may get a chance to compete in the SAIKAC Chess Tournament later this year. Students will be grouped according to their level of proficiency. Junior Soccer Club (Grades 4-6) 20 Students Maximum Sponsor: Terry Naso Junior Soccer Club is open to boys in grades 4-6 who have an interest in developing their soccer skills and improving their play. Sessions will focus on improving individual skills and team play in realistic game situations. Boys should report to training sessions appropriately dressed for soccer and with a FULL PERSONAL WATER BOTTLE – MINIMUM 1 Liter. Members of the Jr. Soccer Club will be given first opportunity to participate in the British International School’s “Festival of Football” to be held later in the year. *** This activity will only run until October 19, 2011. Beginning Volleyball (5-6) Sponsor: Jennifer Lasater Come and learn the beginning skills needed for volleyball. Learn to bump, serve (underhand) set, and spike! We will play simple games to practice these skills. The #1 Ladies’ Creative Arts Society (MS/HS) Sponsor: Rose Morley / Marsha Phelps Spend an enjoyable afternoon learning a variety of crafts and creative activities such as card making, origami, friendship bracelets, bookbinding, crochet, knitting, paper crafts and more. Join Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Morley for tea, good company and food for the soul through arts and crafts. Yearbook (MS-HS) Sponsor: Kadie Aceto / Nick Nannen Yearbook Club is an opportunity for students to take part in the creation of the school yearbook. Members will be taught to use Adobe InDesign and Photoshop as well as advanced digital camera skills. For further information, please ask one of the sponsors. Robotics Club (HS) Sponsor: Leslie Thompson Students can build their own robot and program it to do cool things! Junior Varsity Boys & Girls Volleyball (MS/HS) Sponsor: Mubeen Yaqub/Aveegayle Baldoz This activity will provide learning, practice and training of volleyball skills for those interested in the sport. This will also serve as training grounds for the eligible traveling team leading to the SAIK-AC volleyball tournaments at the end of October. Come out and show your skills!
Varsity Boys & Girls Volleyball (MS/HS) Sponsor: Nadia Hussain /Aveegayle Baldoz This activity will provide learning, practice and training of volleyball skills for those interested in the sport. Lunch Time Activities Mosaics (MS/HS) Sponsor: Barbara Jarvis The students will use found materials (such as potter and glass) in order to create a mosaic wall-hanging or mural to be displayed at school. Open Gym (MS/HS) Sponsor: Howard Rose Students are encouraged to continue with a fitness routine that will involve various organized games to promote a healthy lifestyle, physical fitness and sportsmanship. (i.e. basketball, volleyball, soccer, etc.)
