Grade 7 Mapping Unit

As part of their Planetary Science unit in Ms. Al-Mahgoub's 7th Grade Science class students learned about maps and how they are made. Working in small groups, students had to take measurements of the hallways in YIS and then create their own school map.

During this investigation students learned about:

• Location
• Bird's eye view
• Scaling

Students were assessed on:

• how accurate their measurements were
• having a scale on their maps that was accurate and could be used to calculate the original distance
• the map was draw from a bird's eye view
• the map was labeled correctly
